There is no doubt that the future of the automobile will be dominated by electric vehicles, Volvo has announced that by 2019 all their cars will be electric or hybrid, Porsche has stated that their future is electric, full stop, and electric power is increasingly used in motorsport because of its performance advantages. There is also an inevitability of autonomous vehicles, although the speed of adoption and type of integration is less certain. The main factors effecting the success of these technologies will be their cost, infrastructure, legislation and most importantly the reaction of the market and how willing it is to adopt them. At Astheimer, our experience, continual research and talented designers help our clients shape the automotive solutions of the future and we are working on numerous projects in this area, including several autonomous vehicle solutions, vertical take-off planes and boats, most of which are confidential. One that we can share with you is the Deliver-E prototype, an electric commercial vehicle designed for the increasing need of inner city mobility solutions to deliver online shopping, mail and food etc. We designed and developed this prototype in collaboration with the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), which will use the prototype to showcase their advanced propulsion systems.
