Land Rover and Bullitt Group have unveiled their Land Rover Explore Outdoor Phone at Mobile World Congress, designed by Astheimer in collaboration with the Bullitt Group and Land Rover.
The Land Rover Explore smartphone features enhanced durability and a powerful battery that won’t cut the day short, in a sleek design that is suitable for the office or enjoying the great outdoors.
Its core functionality can be adapted to suit any situation by attaching hardware packs while on the go – each providing additional features – to enhance any adventure by enabling owners to go further, and stay out longer.
The included Adventure Pack can replace the need for a separate GPS device with its powerful GPS patch antenna, additional battery and premium topographic mapping with Skyline augmented reality courtesy of ViewRanger.
The Land Rover Explore withstands everyday use outdoors. It is drop tested, can survive underwater (including salt water) and can cope with extreme temperatures and temperature changes. This level of protection ensures the device can cope with heavy downpours or a muddy trail and will continue to work and keep users connected at all times.
The design of the phone translates some carefully chosen Land Rover automotive cues.
These are manifested both in overall footprint and surface language, but also in key details such as the front grille, headlight and bonnet logo details.
This creates a unique, relevant and desirable
design that is instantly recognisable as Land Rover.
Innovation is mapping the terrain of tomorrow. To explore more, we created a unique magnetic slide on module system which adds versatility and functionality
like enhanced GPS or longer battery life.
Full 3D models were created and iterated upon to include changes to the package, until a final refined CAD was released to make prototype parts.
The modules were created in parallel and honed to
truly feel integrated into the overall form.
Carefully selected premium materials were chosen and refined to reflect Land Rover brand DNA and ensure the highest levels of capability and durability.
